THE SOVEREIGN

THE SOVEREIGN
Free me, free me and free me
Freedom, freedom and liberty
Ideals that we sing constantly
From these shackles of oppression I
Pray ye release me
From the grips of slavery unhinge me
In earnest and in truth, the death
Of fraternity I rebuke, the
Lack of equality is disrepute
The voice of suppression
Must be silenced, the aura
Of depression must be muted
Even if by outright violence
Set me free!!!! I beseech thee
Let me breathe because currently
I suffocate beneath ye
I crumble under thy tyranny
Please!!!! Free me.

I have cried out for a long time
I have banged my gong from
The early days, from the smash of 1789
To the bleat of 1949
I echo in the distance asking…
No!!! Begging for leniency
Clamoring for audiency
At the very least bare decency
The decency to hear me
To listen to me plead
Won’t you listen to me?
Oh you mighty bureaucracy
Even you thy distinguished clergy
Won’t you give me a chance to plead?
Won’t you water this seed?
Can you give freedom the chance to succeed?

…………………………. Words!!!
Words, words and words they fail us
Because that’s what the politicians use
To drag us under the bus
After greed and power they lust
But hark!!! The brute of justice
Comes to free us
From the walls of Bastille
To the chariots of Egypt
Is crushed, bashed by the force
That liberty entrusts
The will of the people
Is the oxygen, is the fuel
That makes oppression rust

Your time is nigh
Victory is in the horizon
The freedom that followed Napoleon
The joy that engulfed Mandela Nelson
The Grace that followed Christ
This is a force that you cannot fight!!!!
This is my plight
Freedom!!! Freedom is my right
Freedom!!! Freedom is in sight.

A Poem by Bruno Edgard.
